Lakeshore Pet Alliance Monthly Board Meeting
Volunteers are at the heart of any non-profit organization and you have a positive lifetime impact on the animals in our community and you are an integral part of our team. There are many different ways you can contribute to animal welfare, whether it be directly working with the animals or contributing your time and talents in other ways. It is also a great opportunity to meet other animals lovers. We ask that our volunteers give at least 5 hours a month and remain active for 1 year, this does not apply to younger teens. To receive information about volunteering for a member of the Lakeshore Pet Alliance, please email us the area(s) you are interesed in and we will contact you This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Areas We Need Volunteers for:

FOSTER PARENTS

Please click on link to the left to read more about this most important volunteer need. You can give an animal a second chance at life.

HUMANE EDUCATORS

Our volunteers conduct shelter tours and hands-on presentations at the shelter and in local school districts that help educate children on topics such as responsible pet ownership, pet overpopulation, and pet safety. Help us reach the next generation of pet owners!

ANIMAL SOCIALIZERS/TRAINERS

All animals need tender loving care, and some of our shelter animals need to be reminded that people are kind and gentle. Our volunteers help to provide socialization, training, exercise and companionship to our shelter animals. You can make a real difference to a dog or cat by maintaining that animal’s quality of life and enhancing the chance of a successful adoption.

DOG WALKERS

The volunteer dog walkers will undergo training by Kelly our Certified Dog Trainer. Once you have been evaluted by Kelly, you will be able take dogs on a date to downtown South Haven. You will then be asked to evaluate the dog and let us know what things we need to work on, such as how the dog walks on a leash or what things the dog great, such as they interact great with children or other dogs. This will provide new adopters with additional information so they can make the right decision for their family.

SPAY/NEUTER VOLUNTEERS

Our volunteers directly confront the pet overpopulation problem by helping at our low-cost spay and neuter clinics. Volunteers keep things running smoothly by helping to check in pets and their owners, monitoring animals before and after surgery, and assisting with routine tasks.

GRANT WRITERS

This person would be working on their own with the guidance of a board member applying for grants that will aid the shelter in many of it's programs.

SPECIAL EVENTS VOLUNTEERS

Our event volunteers play an important role because often they are the first point of contact with members of the public who are interested in adopting from or donating to our shelter. Our volunteers help greet the public, provide information about Al-Van and our services, set up and take down table and booth areas, watch over animals who are participating in the event, and assist the event chairperson and shelter staff as needed to ensure the event runs smoothly.

HANDY VOLUNTEERS

Our more handy volunteers take on building maintenance tasks like minor repairs, lawn work, and painting. We also welcome help with tasks like laundry, dishes, and kennel cleaning.

ANIMAL TRANSPORTATION
VOLUNTEERS

These volunteers are responsible for the transportation of animals to our special events such as fund-raisers, off-site adoption events, and spay/neuter clinics. We also have dogs that need to be transferred back and forth from the shelter to Decadent Dogs. Decadent Dogs has adopted out over 210 dogs for Al-Van. Whether you can commit to one day a week or one event a year, give us a call, we would love to have the help.

MARKETING/MAILING VOLUNTEERS

Our mailers need printing, folding and labeling for our shelter events and newsletters. Wel also need assistance in putting packets together for Adopters, Volunters, and Fosters. We would call on you as the needs arise. We have around 7 mailers a year.

KENNEL VOLUNTEERS

We need help on Sundays for a few hours starting around 11:00 am to about 1:30 pm, we need help feeding the cats and dogs and also with cleaning their cages. Even one Sunday a month is great.
